TRACK LAYING SCHEDULE

Approval from city/  In writing from Lisa or Mark?  Have them visit the park to see location of track before starting.

Determine work days  during the week and week ends to accomodate worker's schedules. Have members sign up to work.  Determine how many panels to be laid in one session.

Determine equipment  needed (sod cutter, tractors, hand tools, etc.) and rent or have volunteer(s) donate their time and machines. Make a call list of all persons who will donate equipment.

Make transition track panels (#1, #2, #3) as needed for each area we are to be working in. Have these ready before we start. We will need a pick up or trailer to haul track from Jim's house.

Have an area where we will temporarily store base rock and ballast before using. Check with city or just buy enough for a days use.

Put offset stakes in ground at right angles to track and then remove centerline stakes. Once the grass and dirt are removed we will use these to remark the track centerline.

Use sod cutter machineto remove sod. Call around to find best rental rate. Is it cheaper to rent for several days or a single day? We will need caution tape and stakes put in area if left unfilled.

Load cut sod in a debris box that will be furnished by the city. Check with Lisa or Mark about this and give them the time and date we will need it.

Dig trench for base rock 18-24in. wide by 6in. deep with a ?. Can we use a tractor with a small attachment on its' bucket?   We need to call around for a source to buy base rock and ballast. This cost may be covered by a grant.

Put it base rock loosely.

Use water level to determine elevations of the base rock and 2x4's on foundation stake hooks to screed the bace rock. This step determines the smoothness of the track and the grades!

Use manual tampers to tamp base rock after it is screeded.

Put in track and connect sections using center line stakes. Track may have to be cut with a portable band saw.

Cover with 3/4in.ballast to top of ties and 24-36in. wide. Do we use a ballast car, tractor with bucket, or wheelbarrows to move ballast and base rock?

Put in anti-theft spikes to secure rail.

Add bark furnished by city or leave dry dirt as a buffer for grass mower? Get confirmation from city about donating bark.
